BAS Electrochemical Webinar 2021 December

BAS held the eighth webinar, it was a lecture for the electrochemistry basic knowledge.

Theme of the webinar

Introduction to Electrochemistry Basic Knowledge
Part II - Electron distribution and redox potential of molecules

Topic of the webinar

One of the purposes of electrochemical measurements is to understand the redox potential of the research object. The oxidation-reduction potential is a characteristic feature of substance molecules, which can be used for the characterization and identification of substances. Understanding the electron distribution state of molecules will be extremely helpful to further design substances with the desired redox potential.

In order to facilitate the understanding of the electron distribution in molecules, this lecture first reviews the electron arrangement and atomic orbitals outside the nucleus, how atoms form molecules through covalent bonds, and further understands the nature of covalent bonds, the relationship between the shape of molecules and the electron distribution of covalent bonds through valence bond theory, hybrid orbital theory, and valence shell electron pair repulsion theory (VSEPR). For the understanding of the relationship between molecular properties and valence electron behavior in combination with molecular orbital theory to further understand the relationship between frontier molecular orbital HOMO, LUMO and redox potential.
