BAS Electrochemical Webinar 2024 June
BAS held the twenty third webinar, it was the twelfth lecture in the field of coordination chemistry and electrochemistry, introduced by Prof. Masa-aki Haga, from Chuo University.
Theme of the webinar
Electrocatalyst for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction (HER)
Topic of the webinar
The SDGs , sustainable development goal call upon us to achieve a wide range of goals as listed in 17 terms until 2030, including transforming lifestyles, reducing social inequalities, ensuring equal educational opportunities, pursuing health and peace, preventing global warming and disasters, and protecting our oceans, forests, and global environment, where building sustainable clean energy system is one of the most important problems. Green hydrogen production by electricity-driven water splitting has become a promising strategy.
The combination of theoretical and experimental studies has proven to be a successful strategy in this respect, yielding a framework to understand catalytic trends that can ultimately provide rational guidance toward the development of improved catalysts. For instance, the water-splitting reaction, which consists of the hydrogen and oxygen evolution half-reactions, has attracted great attention as a sustainable source of hydrogen.
This lecture focused on the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) by using the electrocalyst. Electrocatalysts play a key role in these energy conversion technologies because they increase the rate, efficiency, and selectivity of the chemical transformations involved.
